Singapore Day 2 On To The Ship!

We enjoyed an outstanding buffet at the hotel then went out to a pharmacy. I arrived from Tokyo with a cold so wanted some cough medicine. On our way we ran into the ship's rabbi's wife walking with the ship's priest. Amazing to run into someone we knew in Singapore. We made good friends with the rabbi and his wife on our last voyage.

We packed everything up and went to get a taxi. This time the driver was very friendly and helpful. The hotel bellman called to find out where our ship was berthed and off we went. It was only a 15 min ride. We were dropped off right by where the luggage was being collected then proceeded to check in. It was a fast process so we were on the ship with in 10 minutes. We just dropped everything in our cabin and went to lunch then headed back out.

Our last time in Singapore we had taken the train outside of town to visit a WWII memorial. When we arrived it was raining so hard that we just got back on the train and returned to the city. This time it was clear and very hot. Once at the train station we decided to take a taxi as I had developed a blister on one foot. Three taxi drivers told us they were not going that way before one finally agreed to take us. Strange. I thought taxis took you where you wanted to go. It was only a 5 minute ride so they probably didn't want to waste their time on such a low fair. The driver dropped us off and said we would have to walk back. There would be no taxis there and he would not wait. An Australian we met there said the locals are superstitious about the place. That explained a lot. There were rows and rows of headstones, mostly from Australia and Great Brittian that we saw. It was extremely hot. Mel asked a truck driver if he would drive us back to the train station. He only had room for one and would be going in the opposite direction once he hit the main road. It was a long driveway, so helped my foot riding part of the way. Funny to be hitchhiking in Singapore. In less than 10 minutes we were back at the station, then headed back into Singapore.

We went back to the ship for a quick dinner then headed out again. A change of shoes and a bandage helped my foot imensly. We wanted to go to Raffles Hotel so got off the subway at Raffles Place. We didn't recognize anything. The hotel and place are 2 different places! We asked directions and decided to walk. It was along the river and quite nice. There were a lot of joggers and others just out walking. We saw the strangest building ever. I have been having a hard time uploading pictures so my blog my be picture less from now on. Hope to post a pic of the building when I get a chance. It looked like a riverboat cruise ship sitting atop 3 "pedestal" buildings, very bizarre. We also passed by a lot of green space including soccer fields. All of Singapore is very green. If there are a lot of tall building in an area, there are always trees along the road or even green walls in atriums. From our hotel room we could see beautiful gardens on most rooftops.

Once at the Raffles Hotel I decided to have a Singapore Sling again, only this time a virgin. It was not as tasty as the others I had had there. It was just fruit juice. But it was fun being in the famous Long Bar again. We headed back to the ship for an early night. We had a lot of unpacking to do.

After this cruise we will have been on this ship or her sister ship for over 9 months. It really does feel like home. We kept seeing people we knew, happy to see them again. It was nice to see a lot of the crew also. They said hello to us by name. How do they do that? The bed is extremely comfortable, just a nice place to spend a couple of months. One lady we had met on 2 previous cruises passed away earlier in this cruise. We were sorry to hear that. But she loved cruising, I am sure this is where she would have wanted to go.
